Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, *Ishqiya* made a lasting impact with its bold storytelling and raw appeal. As the film marks its 15th anniversary, here are some intriguing facts about the Vidya Balan, Arshad Warsi, and Naseeruddin Shah-starrer.

Vidya Balan Wasn’t the First Choice
The role of Krishna Verma, ultimately played by Vidya Balan, was initially considered for Preity Zinta. According to director Abhishek Chaubey, Preity showed interest in the early drafts but opted out after the final version of the script. Lara Dutta was also in talks for the part at one stage.

Irrfan Was the First Choice for Babban
Producer Vishal Bhardwaj originally wanted Irrfan to play Babban, a role later taken on by Arshad Warsi. Despite his strong preference, a disagreement led to Irrfan stepping away from the project, resulting in a fallout between him and Bhardwaj, who later admitted to ignoring the actor’s calls for two years.

Pankaj Tripathi Was Considered for Khalujan
Before Naseeruddin Shah was cast as Khalujan, actor Pankaj Tripathi was in consideration for the role. Having previously worked with Naseeruddin Shah in *Maqbool* (2003), Chaubey ultimately went with the veteran actor.

Gulzar’s Instant Creativity
Lyricist Gulzar effortlessly came up with the now-iconic line *Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji* for the film’s popular song. Given *Abhi Toh Main Jawan Hoon* from the 1951 film *Afsana* as a reference, he immediately suggested the now-famous phrase.

Vidya Balan’s Hesitation Over a Sensual Scene
Vidya Balan revealed that she was initially uncomfortable filming a scene where her character seduces Babban. She admitted that sucking Arshad Warsi’s thumb felt out of character for her, but being friends with him helped her pull off the scene.

These behind-the-scenes insights add to the legacy of *Ishqiya*, a film that continues to be remembered for its gripping narrative and standout performances.
