“My Parents Pushed Me To Become An Actor” – Kaveri Kapur

Kaveri Kapur, daughter of filmmaker Shekhar Kapur and actress-singer Suchitra Krishnamoorthi, recently shared insights into her journey into acting, highlighting her parents’ instrumental role in encouraging her to pursue this path.

Parental Encouragement

In an interview with Filmfare, Kaveri revealed that her parents were the first to suggest she try acting, even though she was initially hesitant due to shyness. She stated, “My parents were the first people that ever said that you should try acting, even though I was so against it, because I was so shy.”

Their belief in her potential stemmed from recognizing her emotional intelligence and creativity. Reflecting on their reaction to her decision to step into the industry, Kaveri mentioned, “They were very happy! I think they always wanted me to at least give it a try because they saw something in me.”

Guidance from Her Father

Kaveri also shared valuable advice from her father, Shekhar Kapur, which significantly influenced her approach to acting. He taught her that acting is not about “acting” but “being,” a perspective that helped her feel natural in every scene. She elaborated, “The only piece of advice my dad has given me with respect to acting is to view it not as acting but as being and that has really helped me be as natural as possible.”

Personal Reflections

Beyond her professional journey, Kaveri has been open about her personal experiences, particularly regarding her parents’ public separation. She acknowledged that while she was relieved when they divorced, the public nature of their relationship and separation took a toll on her mental health. She shared, “It wasn’t the separation that affected me as much as the relationship itself. I was happy when they got divorced. But yes, it took a toll, especially because it was so public.”

Kaveri continues to navigate her career in the entertainment industry, drawing strength and guidance from her parents’ support and wisdom.
