Actress and UNDP Youth Champion Sanjana Sanghi has voiced a profound commitment to ensuring universal education in India. Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly, she emphasized, “I have a dream to have an organisation where no one is uneducated in our country. I feel lack of education penetration is the larger social issue in our country.”
Sanjana highlighted the transformative power of education in addressing various societal challenges, stating that resolving educational disparities can lead to progress in areas like gender and pay equality, menstrual health awareness, and women’s rights. She pointed out the alarming impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on education, noting, “Unfortunately, in lockdown, the studies show that 10 million girls were forced to drop out of school and pushed into domesticity, and the number for boys was less than a million.”
Her dedication to education and youth empowerment has been evident since her time at Delhi University in 2014. As a Youth Champion for UNDP India, Sanjana has been actively involved in campaigns and programs aimed at increasing access to education and focusing on the needs of India’s youth. Her efforts were recognized when she was invited to the United Nations Headquarters in New York to further the cause of youth empowerment and collaborate with global teams for collective action towards a better world.
Sanjana’s advocacy underscores the critical need for systemic change to bridge educational gaps and ensure that every child in India has access to quality education.
