Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone has voiced her disappointment over the consistent oversight of Indian films and talent by the Academy Awards. In a recent behind-the-scenes video shared on her Instagram, Deepika expressed that India has been “robbed of the Oscars many times,” highlighting that numerous deserving movies and artists have been unjustly overlooked.
Reflecting on the 2023 Oscars, Deepika recounted her emotional response when RRR’s song “Naatu Naatu” won the award for Best Original Song. She stated, “I remember being in the audience, and when they announced RRR, I got emotional… That was a huge, huge moment. That felt very, very personal.”
The video also featured clips from critically acclaimed Indian films such as All We Imagine As Light, Laapataa Ladies, Tumbbad, and The Lunchbox, underscoring her point about deserving Indian cinema being overlooked by the Oscars.
