Malaika Arora clarifies she didn’t intend to scold 16-year-old contestant on Hip Hop India: “I felt it was a bit too much”

Malaika Arora, currently a judge on Hip Hop India Season 2, recently addressed a viral incident involving a 16-year-old contestant, Naveen Shah, from Uttar Pradesh. During his audition, Naveen’s performance included gestures such as winking and blowing kisses directed at Malaika, which she found inappropriate. She confronted him, requesting his mother’s phone number and emphasizing the need for respect and professionalism.

In a subsequent interview, Malaika clarified that her intention was not to scold Naveen but to advise him to moderate his expressions. She stated, “Maybe at that moment, I didn’t have any intention to scold him or tell him that what you’re doing is wrong… I was just going to say that you’re doing too much. Whatever you’re doing, tone it down a little.”

Malaika acknowledged that certain gestures are part of performance art but felt Naveen’s actions were excessive given his age and the context. She also praised his dancing skills, describing him as “an amazing dancer” and “a very nice kid.”

This incident has sparked discussions about appropriate behavior in performance settings, especially involving young contestants. Malaika’s response highlights the importance of maintaining professionalism and respect in such environments.
