Rohit Shetty begins interrogation scenes for Rakesh Maria biopic with John Abraham: Report

Yes, recent reports confirm that Rohit Shetty has begun filming the interrogation scenes for his much-anticipated biopic on former Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria, with John Abraham in the titular role.

After an initial outdoor schedule across South Mumbai, including iconic landmarks like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, the production has now shifted to Ellora Studios in Mira Road. An elaborate police station set has been erected there to capture some of the most intense portions of the story, particularly the high-stakes interrogation sequences that are crucial to depicting Maria’s investigative brilliance.

This film is a significant departure from Rohit Shetty’s usual high-octane, action-heavy cop universe. It’s being approached as a more grounded, gritty procedural drama, delving into real-life investigations based on Rakesh Maria’s best-selling memoir, “Let Me Say It Now.” The book chronicles his involvement in high-profile cases such as the 1993 Mumbai blasts and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, including the interrogation of terrorist Ajmal Kasab.

While the current focus is on these character-driven, psychological scenes, sources indicate that five major action sequences are also planned and will be shot towards the end of August. The film is currently targeting a 2026 release.
